THIS HAS BEEN A BUSY WEEK for me, but wait, this is Sunday and the first day of the week. Back in 325 C.E. the Nicene Council (I think) decided to drop the old Jewish Sabbath, which was the seventh day of the week, in favor of the first day of the week because Christ was resurrected on that day. Why they didn’t call it Son Day or - Resurrection Day I do not know. So, I guess I am speaking about last week. Monday was a rainy day, a good day to read and study. Tuesday: A meeting in Culpeper where the speaker told us that the greatest cavalry battle on the western hemisphere was fought right down at Brandy Station; about 10,000 horses. Wednesday: Rappahannock Garden Club, organic gardening. Interesting. Practical? Thursday: Retiree’s annual meeting at Seven Comers, old friendships renewed.
Returning home, witnessed a near tragedywhy will some drivers drive at excessive speeds in a rain storm? “Fool, why will you die?” Luckily our driver retained his cool. Or is that archaic, now? Friday: catching up on neglected chores. Saturday went to an outing sponsored by the Oklahoma State Society. There was canoeing, swimming and lots of food. I jokingly (?) told some of the Okies that I didn’t know I was to be involved with a bunch of beer guzzlers. Way of life?
The highlight of the week was my association with a couple who were celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary. It was a joy to be with those perennial sweethearts several times, it is my sincere hope that they see their Diamond Anniversary. Does God give to His children a greater gift than to love and be loved?
