VIRGINIA farmers were told this week that more responsibility must be exercised at the local and state levels, “or we must rely more and more upon the federal government to supply services through higher taxes.” Robert B. Delano, president of the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation, warned delegates to the VFBF 51st annual convention in Roanoke that a balanced budget will be the main issue at next month’s General Assembly session.
“I mention this because we cannot go before the General Assembly and ask for large sums of money for special projects and not be willing to support a tax increase,” Delano said in his annual report to the Farm Bureau membership.
