as well as those fire and rescue squads that come forward to seek assistance and information. Under Kopjanski’s leadership the center is able to provide access, at its office in The Link, to the books and online directory of the Foundation Center, an invaluable resource for anyone exploring the world of grants.
Kopjanski says those at the center “hope to activate more partnerships between organizations and citizens.” And she notes that “training and workshops will continue throughout the year,” including a grantmakers’ forum, introduction to fundraising, and a workshop on how best to approach a foundation.
Other items on Kopjanski’s list for 2009 include high school proms, a number of wedding receptions, and in the spring, one* of the two big fundraising events of the Rappahannock Animal Welfare League (RAWL). This affair, called the Hoedown, is a dinner and square dance that is one of the highlights of the year for Sally Cunningham, chair of < the group. Cunningham views the center as “a special group of motivated and talented people (who) fill the needs of our community and provide fabulous support for nonprofits.”
Jon Heddleston, pastor of Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church in Sperryville, is very glad the center is there to help. Twice his church held fundraisers for its building expansion plans.
