Hal Hunter of AmissviUe is a businessman with a special concern for the environment He’s the coordinator of a series of roundtables at The Link. Hunter reports that same 21 organizations, some Rappahannock Country, others serving the region, take part in roundtables devoted to the environment and conservation, exchanging information and making new contacts.
On Thursday, Nov, 20, says Hunter, there is another conservation roundtable, this one a bag lunch affair. “All are welcome to attend,” he adds.
For its first year, the center has had Mike Mahoney of Washington, Va., as its chair. For 2009, Mahoney will be succeeded by vicechair Alexia Morrison. The new chair will start her year in office with a bash: it is to be called Rappahannock First, an event that folks at the center hope to make a regular affair with great meaning for the county.
Rappahannock First (the invitations have not even been prepared yet) will be what Morrison calls “a signature event,” a brunch, an open house, a fundraiser. It will be, she adds, “a way to showcase local talent and food,” with folks spending a day getting to know each other, and kicking off a year of efforts for all the nonprofit organizations across the county.
As Kopjanski said of Rappahannock County, “we’re small but when we pull together, look at all the magic we can create.”
