When the time caire to make up the team for the following season, 1S82, I couldn't for the life of me see any good reason to make a single change. The other clubs in the league, all of them, had but one object In life—to snatch that pennant from my team and me, and I argued that the boys who had kept the championship in Chicago for two seasons would be more likely to repeat the trick than a bunch of fresh ones who were new to me and my ways. So all the other clubs went to their utmost limit in strengthening their teams, but I just left mine as it was.
