Rappahannock, people have as much duty as the citizenry of any other county to help secure, promote and develop a more human understanding of our Bill of Rights (the first Ten Amendments) throughout this planet. County and world progress under the 20th Century meaning of' these Rights first given to us in the 18th Century (December 15, 1701) is limited, only by a lack , of understanding on the part of some and a “do nothing” attitude on the part of others.
Organized society . has done well in its historic, assaults aganist the controls of kings and churches over the spirit of man. Magna Carta and our own Bill of Rights are the boundary line and land marks in the liberation of man from, his- rulers, wot until recently have we even considered that one of )he purposes of freedom of thought is to promote a market .place whereby through cross discussion of facts, truth has a fair chance of winning out. ' According to one well known Alabama-born JSJew York lawyer and writer, “Controversy, matching of wits, are essential for the attain- ment of democratically reached solutions.”
