In preventing the fire from jumping the road, the firemen •*'were able to keep the fire under " control. Speculation as to what - would have happened if the fire had ever jumped the read is high;' With the countryside as dry as it is, and a wind fanning the fire, it is supposed that the blase would have gone up the mountain. Beyond the barn,,in a.small valley, is the house, “Trianon."
With the land as dry as it is, the firemen fought hard, knowing how futile their efforts would be if the fire once got out of control.
Members of the Rappahannock Volunteer Fire Company and the Sperryville Fire Company both responded to the call and were' on the scene from about noon until* .'-after four o’clock. ^ .
