Governor John S. Battle has,?, proclaimed the week of October 21 u Conservation Week in Virginia, with the stipulation that one week in each year here after he set aside as Conservation Week. .. >•
Committees are being organised at the county level by the respective Soil Conservation District supervisor to plan the program for each county and for the Soil Con* serration District. T. G. Ragsdale is supervisor from Culpeper County and Downing Wood from Rap- - pahannock County. The 1 com-;, mittees are composed of agricultural professional workers, ministers, educators, and representatives of the varioos clubs and organisations.
The firi't meeting of the Culpeper County Committee will be held (Friday night, September 28, at which time the program for conservation week will be out* lined. It is tentatively planned te have an essay contest at both high school and grade levels in the schools. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. Educational programs and tonra will be featured during the week, the program being climaxed on Friday night, October 26, by a banquet possibly in Culpeper. The speaker for the dinner it te be announced.

'Meeting Today in Luray^
Professional and lay volunteers of the American Cancer Society's Fourth District, Virginia Division, will meet today, September 27, at 1:30 p.m. in the First Methodist church, Luray. A aeries of discussions will be led by volunteers who have done an outstanding job in lay education, service, publicity, and fund raising in their counties. “ Presiding will be Mre. Clarice Cullen, of Front Royal, fourth district commander, and among those listed to take part on panel ; discussions is Mrs. Hugh Stevens, Virginia Division's 1951 publicity chairman.
Counties ip the Fourth District - include Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, and Warren.
