Driver Demonstration
Students at Rappahannock Co. High School will pit their driving skills against time in a series of tests Monday, March 7, 1955, H. B. Winfrey, principal, announced today. j|
Several students' will drive a specially equipped demonstration car at 20 miles per hour and make emergency stops. Other students will measure the stopping distance.
The tests are designed to get rid of the foolish notion that a cat can “stop on a dime.” . The car is equipped! to measure stopping distances accurately. An emergency signal light is mounted on the hood and three revolvers are fastened on the front bumper. Aimed straight at the* pavement, the guns fire bullets of yellow paint to mark points! at which drivels (1) see the emergency signalf (2) slam on the brakes, and (3) stop the car.
The automobile is supplied by die Farm Bureau Insurance Companies of Columbus, Ohio, and Lynchburg, Va. A safety engineer for the firms rides beside each driver and operates the equipment kt The companies’ engineers have staged similar demonstrations hey fore 3600 schools in die eastern United States.
Monday’s, demonstration will take place on Mt. Salem Avenue, just in frint of the school, shortly after a* 10 a.m, assembly. The public is cordialljt invited.
WALTERS ORDAINED IN SPECIAL SERVICE FRIDAY, MARCH 4th
Rev. Clem A. Walters will be ordained at a special service to be held at Slate Mills Baptist Church on Friday evening at 7 JO pm. Following the ordination, whidi is in charge of the Shiloh Association, the Slate Mills Church will honor him with a reception.
