Monday, March 28th has been earmarked as “Cow-Men’s Day" in Rappahannock. The County Livestock Committee is much concerned over the reproduction problems confronting the commercial cow-men. With a stiff ration between prices paid and prices received making a profit is mighty hard and therefore the committee headed by J. Rodcs Brown, Sr., feels that attention must first be, focused on reproduction- in our cow herds after that it is a matter of size and quality of the feeder calve produced interwoven* with management efficiency.
For these reasons the general theme of the program arranged for Cow-Men’s at Sperryville School on March 28th will be reproduction. A high percentage of , calves
dropped in a short period^ is the first must. * : A slate of the best speakers in the state has ranged, among them being Dr. S. L. Kalison, Livestock pitease Specialist, V. P. I. Agricultural Extension Service. '* fj j •!;
Dr. Kalison was born fo New York Oty. He received hi£ B. A. at Yale University where f|he refceived first honors diplot^p. He then attended Michigan St^fe College and received his D.\£M. iff. 1940. He has held positions^ city meat inspector at New Haven, Connecticut, was on the ^aff at khe University of Tennessit, and was in charge of veterinaryUactivities for Virginia Artificial breeding Association before aqjepting .-his present position. His ,main project has been teaching formers preventive livestock medidi|| and conducting a public relation^ program for the state Veterinary. Association. Gold, model construction, and music are his main'hobbies. ‘ *
