I was particularly interested m the hundreds of voters who added comments to the questionaire indicating they favored even greater improvement^ in the benefits than contained in the pending bill.
If the changes now before the Senate become law, each wageearner covered by social security will have to pay an additional halfcent in social security tax out of every dollar he earns, and each employer will have to put up a matching half-cent for every payroll dollar. The self-employed person covered by social security will have to pay another % of a cent out of every dollar of earned income.
The cost will be $600,000,000 in the first year. It will pass $1, 000,000,000 in the fourth year, and it will soar past $2,000,000, - 000 a year in about 20 years.
In this connection, it is important to remember that the social security tax is scheduled to increase
rights. Because if they don’t we may not have them any more.
