THE OLD ACADEMY

The ‘fold Academy,” located at the nqrth end of Gay Street where it jerosses Wheeler, is the oldest school building in Rappahannock County, old, when it was used by ‘^Yankee” soldiers during the War between The States.
Although it has not been used a$ school building for many years, it is still remembered with affection [by those who attended school .land taught there many years ago.
Some ti|me ago a very nice looking couple was seen taking pictures of the o.ld building..and was observed by one of those “inquisitive Indies", that we have been told, are the inheritance of every small town. In j this instance, however, it happened that the lady taking the picture liked to ask questions too, and enjoyed answering them.
She and her husband were from Indiana, were on a “vacation trip", and had been auu u*u ikx» asked by an old neighbor fo be sure and see “The Old Akidemy” if they passed through j “Little Washington”. They had made quite a detour to see the old school house they had heard so -much about, and where their friend had gotten his education. and a few “lickings”, but they quoted the old gentleman as saying, that he amiss.”
