Orchard Grass A
Double Barreled Crop

Orchard grass is a natural in Rappahannock County and what is more it, is the grass seeded most in our pasture and hay crops. Thus we are extensively using it as a double barreled crop and some farmers are wise enough to use it as a “three-possibility” crop, for hay, for pasture, and for seed.
It is the opinion of our Agronomy Committee, and your county agent concurs, that we should and can do a better job of fertilization particularly of established stands, as a sound economic investment. Briefly this will mean earlier and later grazing, and increased yields of hay or seed profitably.
Now is a mighty good time to be making preparations for either but before deciding what fertilizer.
