Among the visitors to the Rappahannock News on Monday was The Rev. J. J. Davis who for 37 years was a Missionary of the Methodist Church in Africa. Before going into the mission' field the Rev. Mr. Davis was a District Superintendent of the Methodist Church.
Most of his work in Africa has been at Wembo Nyama, Central Africa. The place has a small local newspaper and Mr. Davis estimates that about 10% of the natives are literate. He says the climate is very pleasant and although he has been retired as a missionary he expects to go back to Africa and will lea\% this country on May 23 to spend three more years there.
In addition to his missionary work the Rev. Davis has had time to explore a small river, act as a steamboat captain and as a doctor for the natives and once in a while hunts big game.
The Rev. Mr. Davis married the former Miss Ruth Henderson, aunt of Mr. John M. Barber, Jr. of the Rappahannock News.
Mr. and Mrs. Davis are now visiting Mrs. John Barber ofr Culpper.
