VA Hospital Staff
Young people of high school valuable, contribution in volunteer sen,-ice at some 75 Veterans Administration hospitals, VA announced.
The cheer and enthusiasm of the young volunteers and the services they perform are of great assistanc to patients and members of the hospital staffs, a study just completed by a special subcommittee of the VA Voluntary Service shows.
In return, the- young people gain satisfaction from fulfiling their responsibility for community servee and often develop interest in careers in medicine and hospital work, the subcommittee said.
The hundreds of services performed by young volunteers at VA hospitals include delivering books and flowers to wards acting as hostesses and receptionists, pushing wheelchairs patients, and reading, shopping and writing for patients.
Those with special skills shelve and catalog library books, assist in laboratories and blood bank|, help with production of newspapers, and work as disc jockeys for hospital radio programs
