Cotton Bag Contest
To Be Held At
State Fair
Women interested in home sewing and creating their own designs can give full expression to I their talents by exhibiting in the Women’s Department of the State Fair of Virginia, to be held in Richmond, September 20-28, J. A. Mitchell, General Manager said today. Women and girls who are prize winners here may qualify to enter two national contests.
The “Cotton Bag Sewing Contest,” which for several years has been a feature of the needlework division, is ‘‘bigger and better” this year. Premiums have been increased and several changes made in the articles to compete for prizes in the 8 classes made of cotton bags. The grand prize winner at the State Fair of Virgin^ will win, in addition to cash premiums, a nationally advertised portable sewing machine. This grand prize winner, after qualifying herfc can go on to the National finals in Memphis, Tenn, where awards reach a total value of $15,OQO.OO.
Contestants may enter cjotton bag items in any or all of these categories: kitchen curtains, kitchen apron and two potholders, stuffed toy, luncheon set, pajamas, sport shirt, crib quilt, and motherdaughter dresses. All entries must be made from cotton bags with the exception of minor trimming^.
