Raymond M. Jofinson, Chief Forest Warden for Rappahannock , County, attended the annual District Chief Forest Warden’s meetvine
on January 21st. ‘All Virginia Division of Fo estry personnel stationed in the sixteen county Northern Piedmont District were iri attendance.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and plan for a co-ordinated forestry program throughout the sixteen counties for the comingyear. Problems involving fire prevention and suppression, forest management, reforestation, and forest insect and disease control were discussed
A fact of? vital interest to all personnel present was the sharp in- - crease in hunter fires which occurred in the district during the. fait of 1958. Twenty ^percent of alt forest fires or approximately 35 of the total 173 fires occurring, last year were caused by hunters. <”* ■ a comparative basis, this is more V. an twice the number generally stemming from this cause w thin an average year. The large, number of hunters in the woods, plus the dry weather during the fall, con^ributed to the increase.
