SUPPORT RATE
The United States Department of Agriculture has announced the minimum 1959 national Average price support rate of wheat at $1.81 per bushel, U.£. Grade No. 1. This compares to t?:e minimum national average support rate in 1958 of $1.82 per bushel.
County rates in Virginia, which range from - $1.98 per bushel to $2.01 per bushel, are subject to upward adjustment resulting from parity relationship at the beginning of the 1959 marketing year of July 1. Mr. H. S. Barksdale, Chairman of the Rappahannock County ASC Committee, advised that the support rate for this county is $2.00 per bushel. Discounts will be applied to this rate for lower grades and or undesirable varities. A discount of 20 cents per bushel is to be applied to any of the undesirable varities of wheat to be placed under loan or purchase agreement.
To be eligible for wheat price support ifi 1959, a producer must# be in compliance with his 1959 wheat acreage allotment and be eligible to receive a wheat marketing card on all other farms in the county in which he has an interest.
