Hurricane Grade, though dropping 44 billion gallons of water on Shenandoah National Park, did no great damage to the fall colors in the Park. Investigations show that some of the trees in the high country, especially in the vicinity of Hawksbill and Stony Man Mountains, did lose some of their leaves. However, there were only a few areas where leaves had colored sufficiently to be damaged by high winds.
Reports from the Park are that Grade definitely -toned down the existing colors, but that with the return of cool, sunny weather, colors more brilliant than ever should be in evidence. The mnch needed moisture will intensify and prolong fall colors.
