Early varieties in Virginia’s apple orchards are being picked now and harvest'will be in full swing When Red Delicious apples ripen this month.
Most growers are reporting that the season is about a week later than normal.

By mid-summer the battle of the bugs let up and it was possible to appraise the crop. Currently growers are enthusiastic about the prospects. Slightly over 10,000,000 bushels of apples are expected to be picked from Virginia orchards this fall—about the same as last year and about average for the state. Virginia will produce about 9 percent of the national apple crop.
