Schools Opened In
The County Friday
Rappahannock County "Schools opened Friday for a half day and re-opened Tuesday after La b o r Day for a full day. Enrollment figures for the entrie county are not available at this time bu H. B. Winfrey, principal of the high school, said there were approximately 290 students enrolled in that school with about 85 in the eighth grade which is divided into three sections. Physics is being offered this year for the first time at RCHS.
Teachers who attended summer school are Miss Lourena Zinn, University of Virginia; B. Gayle Titchenell and Norman Skinner, Madison College and Tarry Bolyard, University of W. Va.
Two accidents occurred in the two and a half days school has been in session. Walter 'Henson, maintenance supervisor, cut his leg with a powered saw while working at Washington Elementary School. He was taken to Front Royal Hospital by the Rapp’k Rescue Squad. . A bus carrying colored children struck a horse near Sperryville. No children were hurt. The animal, owned by Allison Atkins, dashed into the highway and when struck, was so severely injured it had to be destroyed. The bus was damaged, but the driver was not at fault.
