Secretary of Agriculture Orville L. Freeman will be keynote speaker at dedicatory ceremonies scheduled to be held Saturday for the Mountain Run Watershed.
The program, slated for 1 p.m., EST, will be held 4t the site of Mountain Run lake located approximately five miles south of Culpeper off U. S. Route 29.
Three dams and channel work along the lower section of Mountain Run within the 29,000 acre watershed comprise d e major physical work. The project was specifically planned for1 agriculture. Mountain Run lake, however, serves the dual purpose of municipal water storage for the town of Culpeper and water conservation by retarding flood waters. Objective of the other two structures is specifically flood prevention.
Mountain Run Watershed was recognized by the National Watershed Congress as the nation's most outstanding watershed project for 1961. TTris t tle is shared with a similar project in Louisiana.
The project was planned, and work supervised by the Soil Conservation Service of tl)e U. S. Department of Agriculture. This year, for the isecond time, the watershed project has been awarded the Soil Conservation award presented annually by die Goodyear Tire and Rubber ComThree
