Your fictional editorial entitled “Plan of Survival No. 13“ signed by printed in the November 16th issue has me puzzled. What sort of people are writing the editorials in your newspaper ? People-who lose the game before it is played ? People who would drive their families to the middle of an ■ area being bombed so that they could be destroyed immediately? It is the work a person who be-. lieves in “yellow journalism.”
President John F. Kennedy has yet to “peddle” his first shelter. It is my impression that the President is atempting to make all people aware of the possibility of ail hydrogen bomb attack. 'If we cannot read the handwriting on the wall, no one should feel sorry for us. The President, 1 am sure, is well aware of. Russia’s destructive bombs and is telling the American people to be ready for the worst.
What is your source of information,’ B.C.B., on such things as bombs carryingi.“nerve gasses, spinal -meningitis and other bacteria ?” 1 have never read of such possibilities. It could be true, but I will personally doubt it until I see it in print by a reliable publication, and then confirmed by a high official in the Office of Civil Defense. Either justify your remarks or retract them in this column.
Fallout shelters are not “rather expensive to construct.” There are precautions which can be taken by all peoples, no matter what their financial circumstances may be. We are having a Civil Defense meeting here in Washington at the courthouse on Friday, November 24th, at 7:30 pm. Mrs. Bertha Armel is going to speak on "First Aid Emergency Kit” and I am going to speak on “Fallout Shelters & Facts About Fallout Protection.” I take this means to personally invite B.C.B. to attend, and after our brief talks, followed, by a question and answer period, trust he will have received some much needed education.
