Park Service Says Too Early ' To Predict Foliage Change
| Some inquiries relative to fall color changes in the Blue Ridge Mountains already are beginning to be received at i Shenandoah National Park Headquarters near Luray, | Acting Superintendent Jerry j B. House stated today. Although summer green still: dominates the forest cover, there is a noticeable change to red in the dogwood and Virginia creeper, according to House, who said these species always are the first to take on their fall hues. He added that there was some fear that the long, dry spell throughout the summer might i adversely affect the color, but the entire Park received heavy rains last week and it is hoped they will serve to preserve the foliage until normal changes occur through natural processes.
House said it is much too early to attempt to predict the color peak, but that the public will be kept informed throughout the remainder of this month and during October when the greatest change usually occurs.
