Mrs. Helen Kilby representing the citizens of Sperryville discussed the proposed sewerage system for that village and quoted statistics regarding same. A questionnaire had been sent more than 100 people in that area and 72 had replied.
Bills for medically indigent persons who had applied to the Welfare Board were presented and it was noted that of five applications, four of these were chronic alcoholics, an appalling ratio.
Current monthly accounts were approved for payment before adjournment.
2 Farmers Injured
By Cornpickers
Two farm accidents involving cornpickers have occurred in the Amissville area recently.
Raymond Moore is a patient in the University of Virginia Hospital with a crushed hand and forearm which he sustained Friday when he attempted to unchoke a compicker which was running. His glove became entangled and pulled his hand and arm into it as far as thec elbow. He remained trapped in the machine for about 45 minutes before his cry for help was heard by neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Charles Davis. According to Mrs. Moore Wednesday morning, the doctors had told her they were sure the hand could not be saved but as of that time it had not been amputated. E. L. Weakley sustained a hand injury the last of October when he attempted to unchoke his compicker. He is recovering satisfactorily at home at present, though according to Mr. Weakley, a finger may have to be removed and skin grafts will be required.
