Are you missing “something for nothing”? Your library has over 6000 books, most of which you may read for nothing except the effort of coming to get them. You may keep them for the normal period of two weeks without charge; if you have not finished them by that time they may be renewed for another two weeks, or, if you live at a distance and cannot get them back in two weeks, you may request a time period of three or four weeks when you take them out. An exception is made to lengthy borrowing on the new books because there is usually a demand for them. The time limit on new books is, therefore, one week.
In addition to the books available for lending there are numerous reference volumes which cannot be taken from the library but which are available there for your use.
There are books on the history of painting, gardening, poetry, plays, interior decorating, landscaping, furniture of different periods, how to recognize antiques, history, biographies of famous people, religious thinking, famous Virginia houses and gardens, folklore, and on many other subjects. And, if you don’t find your hobby or subject of interest covered in the collection, let your choice be known and an effort will be made to broaden the coverage to include it.
