Include Hit & Run
Several traffic mishaps have been reported by local officers in the past few days including a hit and run, single vehicle crash and one involving a deer.
According to Trooper J.B. Willis, the hit and run collision occurred on Route 211 just east of Washington about 6:30 Sunday morning. James Henry! Gaston, operating a 1964 Chevrolet owned by Lawrence Starks, both of Washington, Va., failed to stop after striking another vehicle. The victim was Forrest Edgar Knisley of Vienna driving a 65 Oldsmobile owned by Nellie Virginia Knisley. Knisley was traveling west when the car operated by Gaston crossed into the left lane and struck him. Gaston failed to stop at the scene but was later apprehended by Trooper Willis. He was charged with hit and run, reckless driving and no operator’s license. Trooper Willis investigated an accident on Route 211 west of Sperryville where a deer was struck and killed by Bobby Lee Painter of Stanley in a 69 Chevrolet. Damage to the car which was owned by H.L. Wiechmann, Inc. of Alexandria was estimated at $300. A single car crash was reported Saturday by Trooper W.A. Buntin. On Route 211 just east of Amissville about 8:30 a.m. a 1962 Chevy II skidded off the left of the highway into a fence. The operator Francisco Antonio Lugo of Washington, D.C. escaped injury but damage to his vehicle was estimated at $400.
