SEVENTY PERCENT of the surface of the earth is covered with water. A stream rising in Rappahannock County flows into Chesapeake Bay, and out into the Atlantic Ocean, and eventually mingles with all the waters of the “Seven Seas.”
A plastic bottle or other unsinkable trash floating in one of our rivers has a good chance of being carried by the ocean currents and winding up on the shores of Europe, Africa, or South America. Similarly, their garbage could end up on our shores.
