IN MATTHEW 13: 25 Jesus tells a parable about a farmer who sowed some wheat. One of his enemies came in the night and sowed some tares (newer translations call it thistles) among the wheat. Tares were a weed that resembles wheat but is poisonous if eaten.
We don’t think that people would do things like that today, or do we? The Christian religion maintains that the sin of ommission is about as bad as the sin of commission. Let’s think about that.
Someone might say: “Now what brought that on?” I’ll tell you what brought it on, our country is being infested by a type of thistle that will ruin it if something is not done about it. If you have it on your property and let it go to seed and blow away to another’s property you might be accounted, in an abstract way, as guilty as the enemy who sowed the tares long ago.
