Washington Town Council member Charlie Tompkins, chairman of the Wastewater Study Committee, read a prepared statement noting that his committee “unanimously endorsed Resource International’s feasibility study.” The company recommended a sewage disposal system utilising a recirculating sand filter with subsurface drainflelds and a combination gravity/pump-opernted system for collection.

In June, five Rappahannock County 4-H State members attended 4-H State Congress in Blacksburg. Robin Kaye and Emily Sima participated in the Shan* the Fun Dance category, and they both received participation meduls. Jam! and Wendy Gillie played a piano duet in the Share the Fun completion and ranked fourth overall and received participating medals. Ashley Corbin also attended Congress and hud fun.

Elementary school principal Rae Tupper presented an overview of the “transitional first grade" program plan to county school board members at the Aug. 11 meeting. The new class, scheduled to begin this school year, feature* a low student-teacher ratio and intense concentration on improving reading, math and oral language skills.
