A native of Clarke County, Va,. Whiting grew up surrounded bv the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley and the Piedmont region. Although occasionally painting still life compositions, florals and street scenes, the ti>cus of his work continues to be landscapes.
Whiting's painting style has been described .is a combination of realism and impressionism. He captures the fleeting tight and color of a scene so accurately that one cannot help but feel transported to that very spot.
“Mr. Whiting’s paintings capture the bucolic nature of our area; peace and serenity come over me wheu 1 stand in front of one of his paintings. I feel as though 1 have come home.'* said photographer Janis Stone, on a recent visit to the gallery.
