Out of the attic
The photo and the following caption ran in the September 29, 1983 edition of the Rappahannock News. Traffic to the Shenandoah National Park brought new opportunities for apple marketing and one of the first men to operate a fruit stand locally was George Rowe, who has been identified as the man in this photo taken by a WPA photographer. Rowe bought baskets for his fruit and sold basket and all to passersby. Despite his creative spelling Rowe's success inspired others to dot the road past Sperryvitle with fruit craft and souvenir stands.
