Last week we wrote on this page how fortunate we were to live in a county that continues to be recognized nationally for its talented residents. Not a week went by when we Learned that yet another honor is being given, this time to a student at Rappahannock County High School. On Tuesday — in a letter from Dr. Patricia L Wright, Superintendent of Public Education for the Commonwealth, of Virginia - RCHS senior Austin X Collins was informed that he had been selected to be one of two students to represent Virginia in the U. S. Senate Youth Program. This spring, Collins will travel to Washington to represent Virginia and Rappahannock County in a program that will take him and other students from across the nation to meet our national leaders including the President of the United States. * There must be something in the air out here. Whatever it is, we find this latest honor yet another reason to be proud of the people of this incredible community
High honors are not only a reflection of specific individuals, but of the whole culture that has come to define Rappahannock County including our often overlooked public institutions. Without taking from any other excellent school in the county it is worth noting that Austin Collins attended all four years of his high school career at a public institution. /- • Our hats off to Dr. Robert Chapped and the staff at Rappahannock County Public Schools. We also would like to mention that Collins had Hie encouragement and support of the Headwaters Foundation and Next Step Director Miranda Hope, and that their dedfeation and tireless energy has helped to propel many more students to post secondary education achievement.
