Permits Issued For Seven Homes During January $528,5.10 Value For 1952 Building, Survey Rev eals I Building permits foi seven new homes in Farmville and Prince Edward county were issued in January to open the local building year. Estimated value of the 12 permits issued, which included seven new homes, two new barns, and repairs and alterations to I homes, was $69,900 Two new homes ynder con struction in Farmville belong to M. Y Dugger. West Third Street, and Irving and Leona Jackson, 406 Park Ave. Building permits for new homes in tire county were issued to L. H. LaFoon. J Wiley Putney. Louis Phelps. Catherine and Earl Lane, and W. M. Mc Christian. A survey of building permits is sued in Farmville and the county in 1952 shows a drop compared to the building year of 1951. Last year’s permits for commercial and residential construction total ed $528,555. compared to the $649,172 of 1951. Permits for homes and repairs and additions to homes in the county, last year, amounted to $121,885. while commercial and farm building permits totaled $120,200. Commercial permits in the town were valued at $68,000. last year, and permits for new homes and repairs to homes were $216,867. This grand total of $528,555 in building permits for 1952 was is sued in 92 separate i>ermits A building permit must be se cured in Prince Edward county lor any construction or repair work to home or business which amounts to more than $500. High School Drama, Forensic C ouncil To Meet At College A drama council tor Virginia high school teachers who sponsor forensic events will be hold Feb ruary 18. in Jarman Hall. The clinic will begin at 4:.10 p m.. and again at 7:20 p. m.. after dinner. This clinic sponsored by the speech and drama departments of the University of Virginia, will be divided into three sections. The subjects to be discussed are drama, reading, and speaking. The program is bring planned by Dr. Jeffrey Aver of the Univer sity department of speech and drama. Dr. C L. S. Earley, profer sor of speech and drama at Long wood w ill participate as- a leader for the drama group. Board Authorizes Sale Of Old Jail In Amelia County Amelia c o u n t y supervisors authorized the sale of the 102 vear old county jail m the court house square at their meeting, this week Commonwealth's At torney V W. Southall will sell the tail at. public auction sometime next month. The building will have to be removed from the square within 30 days The supervisors also authorized J. A Lawrence, fire warden of Amelia county, to purchase a tank for his truck, including necessary hose and fittings, at a cost of $225 This truck will be used for fighting fires. The board approved an appro priation of $11,549 to the welfare budget from county funds for the fiscal year beginning .Ally 1 High School To Give Program Of Music The Farmville High School Band and Glee Club will present a musical program m assembly next Tuesday. According to Mr. Hassell Hoier. director of the 28 piece band and the 40 member glee club, both groups will present a program pf varied numbers. The band has piayed in con certs for assembly piograms at the high school this year.
