His type rf surface lure on which lie gets the most bass, isn't a sur face lure at all but a floater w hich he retrives very, very slowiv with occasional jerks of the rod tip Vou could convert this into a deen plug by adding split shot or lead but you'd have to be very care ful not to wreck the action. If you were to be a two-plug angler, the other plug would be a sinker. One that sinks ouite , slowly does very well to depths ' of six or eight, feet- and a slow sinker hovering in midwater look, most natural when worked slowly with little ierks and dead pause This means that a man fishing ■"here the water is rarely over 10 reet deer> or so will generally do best with a slow sinker: but where 't’s over that, unless you have the patience of Job. you'll want something that goes down faster. erhaps a metal lure. For really deep water my favorite is a small, heavy metal pork-rind lure A thin, flatfish one will weave and wobble too much to go rlou-p ■ erv rapidly, and the smaller, heavv one won't have much action of i's own at reasonable speed so it needs the action of the rind A single spinner blade at its head not onlv gives it a flash but set up a slight jiggle that gives the rind a good action.
