Four Children Perish In Fire Monday Morning J C Flames Destroy Jack Fee Home South of Worsham Four children of the. Jack Lee family died in a flash fire that destroyed- a rural Prince Edward county honv- about 10 30 a in. Monday morning six miles south of Worsham a short distance off tv K utf The dead in the Negro family if 10 child jen are Aubrey Lee. 5 Norman L*e. 4. and Betsy and Charley Lee, twins, age nine months. The six surviving children, all old as were away at school when the blaze swept through the one story frame dwelling, quickly snuffing cut the lives of the four children caught, inside. Mrs. Lucille Lee. the mother, told a Herald reporter, that she left the children inside when she went to a nearby pasture to see about a cow. She saw smoke, site said, but believed it was coming only from the chimney. When fhe returned in about five mi!.t:;e:-. 11 ip hut v.a> engulfed in flumes. Mis Lee said she could not enter because of the smoke. She believes one of the older chil dren may have been playing wth mutch* to start the fit'- The only fire in the house she said was in a small tin stove. Deputy Sheriff Jack Overton said the bodies of the children were recovered near the back door, and calculated they may have gotten that far in escape efforts when overcome by flame and smoke. The father. Jack Lee, is em ployed at Buffalo Shook Com pany plant at Farmvilie. and was at work Monday morning. The bodies were taken to Bland-Reid Funeral Home. Farm vilie.
