Slate ITill Chapter Receives Recognition At DAR Conference Slate Hill chapter was named to the Daughters of American Revolution ate honor roll at the recent DAR state convention in Roanoke. Nearly 400 member of the 104 DAR chapters heaid a past presi de nt of the U. S. Chamber of Com merce deliver a sharp attack on personal handouts from govern m.nt public expense. Clem D. Johnston, of Roanoke, now chairman of the Chamber ex ecutive committee, termed demo cracy an "unfinished business." and listed five essentials to the American way of life: dignity of man, faith in the capacity of nun to solve his own problems, equali ty of opportunity, social change by persuasion and maximum op portunity for release of opportun ity. A second conference speaker was Dr. Jean Stevenson, national DAR chairman of genealogical records, who proposed a state wide program to place vital rec ords on the DAR library in Wash ington and the state archives in Richmond.
