County Supervisor s Hear Public Before Action is Taken Secondary Highway funds amounting to $1,626,566 will bo distributed to six Herald area counties for the 12 months begin ning July l. according to an an nouncement today by the Virgin ia Department of Highways. The Secondary System is com posed of the county road net over which boards of supervisors main tain responsibility in cooperative action with resident highway en gineers. The 1957-58 allocation is up slightly over a year ago. result ing from additional federal aid funds and a rise in expected state revenue. Secondary funds an- dis tributed to counties as they be come available during the year. Board Hearings Boards of supervisors now are conducting public hearings to re ceive suggestions for projects to bo included in maintenance and construction work to be complet ed with the funds allocated. Allocations for .each of the six counties are: Amelia —- $252. 125: Bucking ham — $387. 450; Charlotte $350,002; Cumberland — $204,155; Powhatan — $159,882, and Prince Edward — $272,952. The Highway Department dis tributes available funds using a formula that includes population, secondary road mileage, area and vehicle miles of travel.
