conspicously posted, and practically no one paid any attention to the low limit. Wte were unfortunate enough to be one of the few to be hauled in. Since that time we have noticed how many places in the towns ' and cities requiring speeds unrealistic to the area. Many drivers, careful drivers become “speeders" on account of unrealistic speed limits or from ignorance. The Superintend ent of Richmond schools was picked up re cently for “speeding” in a 25 mile zone. We do not believe he was a speeder, certainly not at heart. Naturally there are the habitual fast drivers, who are a menace on the the Town's streets. They should be checked, apprehended and fined. Police and citizens know most of them. Under Virginia law, a second offense within a year, requires loss of license to drive for 60 days, a very salutary effect upon habitual speeders. V e do not intend to defend speeding in towns, but we do want to recommend ju dicious use of timing devices and realistic ordinances to control safe use of the streets for everyone, pedestrains as well as motor ists.
