Franklin Recognizes John Spears Maxey, Powhatan Native A Powhatan native, the Rev. John Spears Maxey. a 76-year old retired minister, has been se lected Franklin First iCitizen of 1956. ' Maxey’s sister. Mrs M. B Har lan, still lives in Powhatan, where Maxey was born Nov. 29, 1880. He went to Randolph-Macon 1 Aca demy and Randolph-Macon Col lege. and has served as pastor of churches in KeysvlUe, Cartersville, Skipwnrth Mon tress. Danville. Orange, Whaleyville and Norfolk. The Ret. and Mrs. Maxey and iheir daughter. Mary, went to Franklin in 19*29. following his retirement.
