They were previously known a s Agricultural Conservation Committees. Their duties wilT remain unchanged.
This means that the local county farmer-committee, of which H. 3. Barksdale is chairman, will • ’ now be known as th# Rappahannock County. PM4 committee in■ stead of .“ACA” committee as was •formerly the . case. . A similar change' will apply, in the. name used- r to . designate., community . farmer-coromttees. ...
The change in. name, comes as a- result of revised regulations pertaining to the selection and. functions of county) and community committees, approved last -month hy the Secretary of Agriculture, according to S. B. Brklgforth, state PMA chairman. He ^poted that the' farmer-committse system eras established back in the '‘middle-thirties* * to administer what was then known as the Agricultural Adjustment Administration program. However, in 193d, with the passage of the Soil Conservation and Domestic Allotment Act, the committees became known officialises Agricultural Conservation Association committees, which name continued until the present time. —In 1945, the activities- of the old AAA and those- of several other agencies of the Department -Were combined under the - Production and Marketing Adminiatration. Since then,' the duties of state, county, and community committees have successively broadened* * ' * The local PMA courty office is listed in the telephone directory as AAA office—2271. The office is located in the Rappahannock National Bank Building and the office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
