Now the use of words is odd. It’s like the young school-boy who announced belligerently, “I ain’t got no pencil!” * '

“Why, Arthur, you know better than that,” said his teacher. “You should say, “I haven’t a pencil.”

“Yes’m, jbut that air/t it. I had a pencil just a minute ago and now I ain’t got one.”

Along this same line of thought in the careful use of language, it is appropriate to say that New Year’s resolutions are not broken, they are busted.
