So long as we have continuing heavy defense spending and an unbalanced budget, we cannot afford to assume that there is no danger of inflation which will farther reduce the value of our already chrunlcen dollar.
The budget proposed by President Truman for the 1954 fiscal year estimated spending at 9.9 billion dollars
that period. If the Congress succeeds in cutting an average of 10 percent from the 78.6 billion dollars recommended * for spending, there still would be a deficit of around two billion. Cutting the budget an average of ten percent will be difficult.
