Chiefs Defeat Clark County

William Armentrout, with two home runs, led the Rappahannock Chiefs to victory over the Clark County team at Berryville, Sunday, July 26. With only one error marked up against the Chiefs, they made a total of 15 hits—7 doubles and 6 singles beside the two homers. Junior Hawkins pitched until the eighth inning when he was relieved by Jackie Sisk.

This Sunday, August 2 the Chiefs will play Stevenson in Washington at 3 o’clock. August 5, the Chiefs will play Catalpa at Old Hickory Ball Park in Culpeper and will receive the gate receipts.

The 1953 apple packing season opened withlhe Washington Cooperative beginning production Wednesday, July 22. Downing Wood’s packing shed in Washington opened Monday, July 20. Flint Hill is to begin packing around the first of August. The plant at Sperryville is expected to start packing the fifth or tenth of September.
