George Washington Woodard
Early Thursday morning, July 23, George Washington Woodard, 73, died at his home in Sperryville. Graveside services were conducted in the Sperryville Cemetery by Rev. A. Paul Thompson and Rev. David Menchhofer, Saturday, July 25 at 11 o’clock.
A native of Rappahannock County, Mr. Woodard was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Woodard of Rappahannock.
Mr. Woodard is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nora Woodard; a daughter, Mrs. James A. Dodson; a son, George Edward Woodard, all of Sperryville, and two grandchildren. Active pallbearers were George W. Brown, James Atkins, Charles Estes,
Swindler. The honorary pallbearers were friends and neighbors.
Grover W. WhortonGrover
W. Whorton, 43, died Sunday, July 26 at the University Hospital in Charlottesville where he had been a patient for several days. Mr. Whorton was the son of the late Comer Whorton and Mrs. Haynes Whorton of Rappahannock.
He is survived by his mother; two brothers and three sisters, Thomas W. Whorton and Roy Whorton, and Mrs. Virgie Peyton, Mrs. Helen Compton and Mrs. Stella Jenkins, all of Amissville.
Funeral services were held from the Pentacostal Church at Massanova on Tuesday, July 28 with his pastor, Rev. R. H. Scroggins presiding. Burial was in the Spicer Family4 Cemetery, Hope HilL
Active pallbearers were Ashby Jenkins, Harry Whorton, Alis Whorton, Kelly Whorton, Melvin WTiorton and Sia Grigsby.
Monroe Atkins
Funeral services for Monroe Atkins were conducted by Rev. A. Paul Thompson Wednesday, July 30 at 2 o’clock in his home near Sperryville. He was buried with military' honors in the National Cemetery at Culpeper.
Mr. Atkins. 40, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Ashby Pullen, Monday evening. * A native of Sperryville, Mr. Atkins was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Atkins, both of Sperryville. He is survived by his wife and seven children.
