Rappahannock County has been invited to join a group of other, counties in this region to plan the building of a cooperative hospital for the aged and chronically ill. The location of the hospital has not as yet been determinedbut Fredercksburg and Bowl-._’ ing Green have been suggested as being centrally located and accessible to medical and domestic staff. The one floor rambling type institution! would be open to those who could afford to pay as well as to the indigent. ' The chronically ill, the convalescent, and the aged from participating counties would be offered care at a per day. cost of $2.25 to $2.50, which is "well below the cost of a reputable nursing home or hospital. A group of about eighteen counties has been asked to participate. Financing will follow the plan used successfully by the Patrick Henry Hospital in Warwick County. There will be an initial contribution by each county through an appropriation by the Board of Supervisors as well as contributions from churches, organizations, industrial plants, businesses and private individuals. Tentative plans are for a 100 bed hospiital at an approximate cost of $2000 per bed. Mrs. C. E. Johnson Jr., chairman of the County Welfare Board, Mrs. Frances Thornton, Public Health Nurse, and the Rev. A. Paul Thompson have volunteered to act as a steering committee to make plans for a county-wide meeting to find out v if the citizens of Rappahannock Cot are interested in joining this group. This meeting will be held the last week in August. Watch your paper for announcement of the exact date.
