SCS Observes Conservation
Week, and Sponsors Contest
Governor John S. Battle has again proclaimed the week of October 1117 as Natural iResources Conservation Week in the Old Dominion. 1953 is the third straight year that Virginians have paused to take stock of the natural resources that have contributed so much to make Virginia a great state. Governor Battle stated in part, “I urge all Virginians to join with the Virginia Association of Soil Conservation Districts in the third observance of Natural Resources Conservation Week.
The Culpeper Soil Conservation District is planning numerous activities prior to and during Conservation Week. The District is again sponsoring the “Consevation Poster Contest” in all the schools. Cash awards will be given for the best poster in each of the 12 grades at the county level and four prizes for the district winners. This year for the first time, state awards are being offered as follows: $50 for first prize; $25 for second; $10 for third and $5 for. fourth. - Conservation films will be shown to school children and civic clubs. Station WCVA and the Culpeper-StarExponent have offered their assistance in bringing conservation information to the trade area of Culpeper.
T. G. Ragsdale, Soil Conservation District Supervisor, has invited all agencies, civic groups, and business to give “Natural Resources Conservation Week” their wholehearted support.
