Chapter 10 is a continuation of Chapter 9. It grows out of the spiritual blindness of the Jewish leaders of the day and their treatment of the blind man who had received his sight. These leaders had proved themselves ~to be incapable asshepherdsofthe— people and so as a result of their failure Jesus illustrated His ability and compassion as the True Shepherd by telling them of the sheepfold. He and He only is. the true shepherd, whidh will not flee when danger approaches. This chapter reveals Jesus in His best loved and also most beautiful portraits. Here His compassion is revealed at its best. ,
In Chapter 9 the rulers had rejected the man who had received his sight, because he would not classify Jesus as a siftngr because He had broken one of their traditions. But when Jesus heard of their cruelty He came and took the man into His Kingdom and then proceeded to illustrate the True Shepherds work, love and leadership. Verses 1-6 reveal the true Shepherd in attitude method and love. Here he enters by the door and the sheep know him and love him and also follow him. But an untrue shepherd sneaks up some other way and flustrates the sheep rather than comforts and cares for them. These leaders were unable to feed the flock because of their hard headed and distorted views of God's Word, work and methods. Because Jesus had not fulfilled their ideal as a Messiah they would not accept Him. He also condeemned much of their traditions and customs which they held to be necessary for salvation and so they sought every means possible to get rid of Him.
