Pvt. Vernon. A. Atkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alson Atkins of Sperryville, has recently finished his basic training with Company “L” 501st ABM Infantry Regt. and is'now in training for , a Mill tary Police. He is ncfw stationed at Camp Gordon, Georgia. Previous to his enlistment in the Armed Forces, Pvt. Atkins was employed as a clerk at Schwartz’s Store in Sperryville.

' Funeral services were conducted on Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock in the Methodist Church', Sperryville for Mrs. Mary C. Brown, by Rev. H. G. Thatch, assisted by Rev. H. B. Eaton of Trinity Methodist Church, Rich- ‘ mond, for Mrs. Mary C. Brown. Pallbearers were all nephews of the deceased who included George Mitchell, Herbert Johnson, Julian and Carl Mitchell, Irvin Deane and Edgar Sawyer. Those who acted as honorary pallbearers were W. N. Rector, George Taylor, Edward Bites, Lester Dodson, Charles Estes, Robert Estes, Clyde Johnson, Joe Johnson, W. C. Gentry', George W. Brown, Clyde Atkins and Elder J. H. Daily.
Among the relatives and friends out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs.^ E. T. Sawyer, .
