We are proud to present another Flint Hill boy, Ivory Atkins Jr., as 4-H’er of the month. Even though Ivory has conducted some very outstanding project work since 1950 perhaps his long suit is in his leadership recorcj. In' the four years of active dub work Ivory has completed projects in Market ■■ Hogs, Dairy Heifers, Tomatoes, Rural Electrification, Purebred Hogs, and/ Sheep. Although he has specialized, mainly in meat animal projedSklyoVywon top honors in the county with the Rural Electrification project^in 1952 winning a three day all expense paid trip to the Richmond Electric Congress as a county winner from Rappahannock.

The next year, 1953, Ivory increased his projects to four—one of which was a purebred Poland Chjna gilt. By this time he was also devotion leader and finance committee chairman of the Flifit .Hill Club. By 1954 Ivory had won first place in the Purebred Pig Chain and received $60.00 prize money from the Sear’s Roebuck Foundation. Ivory used the $60.00 prize money toward the purchase of a purebred ^Holstein , Heifer for another project last year. In addition to his hogs and heifer, Ivory added five ewes to his project fist this year. With the help of his neighbors, Nelson and Lynn Atkins, Ivory expects to be in the sheep business soon. He also became a junior leader, along with Eddie Sutphin, for the Flint Hill Club. Even though Ivory has been increasing his number of •projects and his profits, all is not gravy because he lost his original Sears Sow at faxrowing the second time. He proved his ability to handle livestock by saving the one day old! fitter. . f.

This year, Ivory became a member of die Washington Senior Club and we have big hopes for him irvthe future. This is another good example of what parents’ cooperation and encouragement will do.' '
